The Weitz Company is seeking an Electrical BIM Engineer to be located at a project site in Des Moines, IA. 

The Electrical BIM Engineer is responsible for supporting VDC/ BIM processes and operations. Fluency in multiple software systems such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, CAD, Civil3D, InfraWorks, FormIt and other systems such as SketchUp, Adobe Creative Cloud, Assemble, Revisto and Procore will be required to succeed. Candidates should also have experience working with reality capture and survey hardware and software for processes such as laser scanning and model generated layout. Position will require collaboration on these systems and processes with internal and external project teams and stakeholders.

Applicant should be confident in participating as an integral team member in both an office environment as well as on project sites. Assist project teams, preconstruction teams, and estimating teams in the implementation and use of Building Information Models and Virtual Design and Construction methodologies. 

What You'll Do:

  • Understands and Utilizes The Weitz Company’s core values as framework for all business dealings.
  • Quantity takeoffs using virtual models.
  • Performs review and evaluation of 3D design models for constructability and incorporates construction means and methods into virtual models.
  • Works closely with subcontractors and the designer regarding constructability details, coordination, and changes.
  • Facilitates the design coordination of the 3D models; collects and integrates virtual models from all project team participants, runs clash detection reports and maintains issue log.
  • Manages 3D design changes during the construction phase.
  • Creates visualizations from the model for RFI’s (request for information) and team understanding.
  • Documents and reports status of RFIs to managers and directors.
  • Creates schedule phasing plans with 3D models, to create 4D simulations for site and logistical planning.
  • Conducts reality capture processes and processes data for project use.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as directed or required.
  • Communicates and collaborates with project internal project team, subcontractors, and management staff.
  • Utilizes and incorporates company's BIM standards and execution plan on projects.
  • Records and reports project metrics and gathers case study data.
  • Creates 3D and 4D models, visualizations, renderings, animations, and simulations as needed for presentations, business development, marketing, pre-construction, project pursuits, and construction.
  • Assists in training VDC process and data to other team members.
  • Researches, develops and implements VDC related software and technology systems and processes.
  • Organizes and documents VDC related material.
  • Performs other responsibilities as directed.

What We're Looking For:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each previously stated duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to succeed in this role.

  • Education : A high school diploma is required. Degree in Engineering, Computer Science Architecture, Building Information Modeling, or Construction Management preferred.
  • Experience : Minimum of two (2) years of BIM related design and two (2)  construction experience. Experience with drafting, design, model coordination and MEP coordination is required. Experience with reality capture hardware and software is preferred.
  • Skills : A qualified candidate will have knowledge and understanding of construction practices, detailing and techniques. Excellent oral, written and visual interpersonal communication skills. Ability to be self-motivated, plan, prioritize, organize and manage responsibility on multiple projects are required.
  • Technology: Candidate should be competent with Microsoft Office applications, and proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit A/MEP/S. Navisworks, Infraworks, and FormIt or SketchUp. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Assemble, Revisto, Procore and other rendering and animations software is a plus. Candidates should be proficient in 3D parametric modeling software as well as have knowledge of additional software used for scheduling and quantity survey processes.
