Basic Function:

The Project Engineer supports the Project Manager in ensuring projects are completed with high quality, on schedule, and within budget. This role involves coordinating project activities, managing documentation, and facilitating communication among team members, subcontractors, and clients. The Project Engineer must demonstrate strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to drive project success.

Team Leadership and Relationships

Accountability

  • Maintain organized project documentation, including schedules, submittals, RFIs, and drawings.
  • Assist in reviewing and improving internal processes to enhance project efficiency.

Budget and Cost Control

  • Assist with preconstruction duties including development of the overall project estimate, including general conditions, bid solicitation, scope development, and complete bid tabulation.
  • Support the Project Manager in managing change orders and cost adjustments.

Schedule Management

  • Help develop and maintain project schedules while listening to input from the Project Manager and Superintendent.
  • Develop and update procurement log to ensure timely delivery of materials as needed.
  • Maintain project logs to ensure timely response.
  • Monitor project timelines and report scheduling concerns proactively.
  • Assist in coordinating subcontractor schedules to ensure timely project progress.
  • Assist with the DCI Full Circle scheduling process for the project.

Quality

  • Review project submittals to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor project performance to align with time, cost, quality, safety, and risk objectives.
  • Assist in ensuring the regulatory process is being followed related to building codes, city guidelines, and local and state regulations.
  • Develop and submit RFI’s to design team with follow-up to ensure timely response.
  • Adhere to DCI’s Quality Control plans and company standards and industry best practices to deliver high-quality projects.
  • Assist in developing a plan to ensure DCI’s Site Expectations are being met and followed.
  • Assist with the constructability process throughout the design phase.

Safety

  • Develop an understanding of DCI’s Safety Expectations plan for all projects.
  • Participate in safety walks with project team to elevate safety knowledge.
  • Promote a culture of safety among employees, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Assist in tracking and documenting safety measures on project sites.

Contract Management and Knowledge

  • Develop an understanding of prime contract terms and ensure projects comply with contractual obligations.
  • Develop an understanding of the contract delivery methods and be working towards the ability to administer and provide leadership to project teams on all delivery methods.

Project Closeout

  • Complete project closeout procedures, including final inspections, documentation, financial reconciliation, and client satisfaction assessments.
  • Support the transition from project completion to owner handoff.
  • Provide documentation to DCI Marketing for future project pursuits.
  • Conduct lessons-learned reviews to improve processes for future projects and communicate with DCI Peer Groups.
  • Maintain post-project relationships to foster repeat business.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and construction best practices

Qualifications:

  • Experience with project management and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6)
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take direction

Required Travel:

Travel is not typically required for this position. From time to time, project opportunities may come up outside of the local area, and employees may be asked if they are interested in traveling. Any travel would be voluntary. If temporary relocation is needed, the company will provide suitable housing and a per diem.
