SHYFT is searching for a Project Superintendent to join our Iowa construction team. This role will focus on expanding our market presence in our regions with construction delivery for our development projects, integrated project delivery, as well as our preconstruction services. In addition to traditional experience, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate at all levels of our services to best showcase our preferred project delivery methods. These opportunities include working directly with the leadership team and firm members in all disciplines, supplemented by client and consultant interaction through focused project work.

  • Serve as owner’s representative who manages field activities for the assigned project(s) while fostering a culture of team building.

  • Prepare, coordinate, and manage site logistics plan, including fencing, parking, deliveries, toilets, and dumpsters.

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all trade partner scope(s) of work and schedule requirements.

  • Manage scope expectations, project costs, general conditions, project risks, and schedules to deliver projects, on time, and within budget with high levels of customer satisfaction.

  • Escalate and manage risks impacting budget, schedule, or client business internally.

  • Ensure project and job site safety protocols are met, in accordance with State and Federal requirements, and SHYFT Collective policies and safety plan.

  • Manage construction site conditions to ensure a clean and safe job site. Ensure trade partners comply with daily cleanup requirements.

  • Coordinate all field activities with trade vendors in accordance with scopes of work and schedules.

  • Track construction activities and progress on a daily basis, completing both daily reports and weekly progress reports.

  • Provide the Project Manager with input and documentation for all project status reports, update tracking reports, and maintain complete and accurate project data.

  • Maintain accurate and consistent electronic files and project documentation

  • With the Project Manager, update the project schedule no less than bi-weekly, identifying major construction and delivery milestones, potential risks, and weather delays.

  • Facilitate weekly Subcontractor coordination meetings with on-site Subcontractor supervisors.

  • Assist home office with labor hour estimates related to project supervision and provide constructability reviews on projects that SHYFT is designing or building.

  • Typical site hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (or as otherwise required by the project schedule).

  • Participate in company business development initiatives in central Iowa.

Required Experience:

  • High School Diploma required

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all stakeholders (Clients, customers, vendors, contractors, partners, team members, etc.) creating a win-win in project delivery

  • Strong written communication skills and experience documenting and distributing meeting minutes to clients & partners

  • Strong familiarity with and ability to read site plans, architectural and engineering drawings, furniture and space plans, construction administration/management, RFP process, project planning, and project tracking/reporting concepts

  • Ability to think critically and use resourcefulness to problem solve when working independently

  • Strong background in construction, design, procurement practices, delivery methods, and contract negotiation

  • On-site trade contractor management experience

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to work in a team / agile environment as well as independently when required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and PDF Editors (Acrobat, Bluebeam, etc.)
