Job Description:

Star Equipment, Ltd is seeking an Assistant Service Manager at our Des Moines location, 1401 2nd Ave, due to a promotion. We are a 3rd generation family-owned Iowa company that was founded in 1968. Star Equipment has grown to 85 employees in 4 Iowa locations; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Ames. Our equipment ranges from small generators and concrete saws, to skidloaders and forklifts, to concrete pumps and crane trucks.

The ideal applicant should be a self starter with 2 years experience in management, administrative procedures, diesel, small engine, and hydraulics on construction equipment. However, we are willing to train the right candidate. Paid training could be in-house or at service schools for major brands of equipment that we carry.

Required Experience:

Assistant Service Manager Responsibilities:

  • Work with Service Manger handling management and administrative details as assigned. Know all phases and procedures of service shop operation and know the company marketing plan.
  • Schedule and assign mechanics in both the field and in house for daily and weekly workloads.
  • Supervise and inspect all work in process and completed work.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze and access repair work to be completed.
  • Assist with customers, over the counter and call-ins, analyze their problems to determine the best possible way to serve them.
  • Assist mechanics when needed, by hands on training as well as some classroom training.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and usable work shop. Make sure all shop and service vehicles maintenance in handled.
  • Act as a safety officer for the company insuring all safety requirements are followed and accidents reported as they happen.
  • Continually study and help upgrade quality proficiency of operations, work habits, and finished products.
  • Act as one of the STAR family, helping sell our sales service and rental service to each customer.

Qualifications:

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good supervisory aptitude, people person.
  • Demonstrated high degree of proficiency in construction equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and evaluate solution through knowledge of construction industry.
  • Able to adapt to sudden schedule changes.
  • Willing to work hours to do the job.
  • Computer knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds.
