The Weitz Company is seeking a Senior Category Manager to be located out of our Des Moines, IA office to support various project sites nationwide. Candidate must have mechanical and/or electrical experience. 

The Senior Category Manager is responsible for developing and implementing procurement and warehouse strategies for the electrical and/or mechanical equipment categories, as well as developing operating plans in support of construction projects. This role will manage one or more Supply Chain professionals working in support of assigned categories and work alongside leadership to drive performance across all projects.


Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage employees
  • Prepare RFI/ RFP packages, evaluate proposals and responses, perform commercial analysis and create recommendations to award
  • Serve as the Supply Chain representative working with pre-construction and project managers in project specification and development
  • Implement strategic sourcing principles of consolidation, standardization and substitution to reduce project total costs, project schedule and improve delivered value
  • Define supplier strategy including management and optimization
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers
  • Assess supplier capabilities
  • Analyze and track supplier performance and develop reports to ensure compliance to contracted KPIs
  • Present to internal teams on metrics, project status and research
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Business travel may be required

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each previously stated duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and ability necessary to succeed in this role.

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Management, Business, Economics, Engineering or equivalent industry experience is required; an advanced degree from an accredited school is preferred. A Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is highly desirable, or the willingness to obtain.
  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of procurement management experience with a world-class construction company, builders supply company or building products manufacturer is desirable, including experience leading and managing change in the supply chain function. Construction project and/ or management consulting experience is a plus. LEAN principles experience is desirable.
  • Skills: Negotiation, relationship building, organization, team leadership, management ability, analytical and problem solving skills are necessary abilities for this position. A qualified candidate will demonstrate effective communication, project management, judgment, initiative, time management, attention to detail, flexibility, problem solving and the ability to maintain a pleasant and positive attitude, even in difficult situations. Employee must also effectively read, write, and speak English sufficiently to perform job tasks.
  • Systems: Proficiency in basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.  Employee should have the ability to learn other specific software (JDE, Procore, Bluebeam, etc.).
