Responsibilities: Help electricians install electrical conduit, wire, devices, fixtures and equipment in commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.
Approximate number of work hours per week: 40 plus some daily and weekend overtime on occasion.
Days and Hours of work: Normally Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM but sometimes we schedule 4 –10 hour days.
Comments: Applicants with military experience that ended less than 7 years ago will be asked to provide a copy of their DD214. Applicants will be asked to provide employment references going back 7 years or 3 employers, whichever is the greater amount of time. This is a skilled trade job with a career track that leads to becoming a licensed Journeyman Electrician.

Necessary Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Stand or walk for long periods of time, lift and carry material weighing up to 100 pounds at waist height and 50 pounds overhead, work overhead for extended periods of time from ladders (up to 36 feet) and lifts (up to 40 feet). Must enjoy working with hands in a variety of conditions and have the ability to conceptualize how parts go together to make a completed installation. A high school diploma or GED is required. A valid Driver License and reliable transportation is required. Must be able to add and subtract fractions, be able to read a tape measure and be able to understand written and spoken instructions and specifications. Job locations may change frequently. The individual must be able to report to the assigned job site at the beginning of each workday and sometimes travel to other sites during the day. Construction experience or construction trades education is desirable but not required. For this announcement we are looking for people with no electrical construction experience. The most qualified applicants will be able to show that they enjoy outside activities and have experience working with tools. Applicants must have or will be willing to purchase a starter set of electrical construction hand tools.
Geographical location: Ames, Iowa Area. However, some travel to elsewhere in Iowa may be required. Overnight travel is infrequent but may be required from time to time.
